Legalism

This image was inspired by Matthew 23 in the Bible, where Jesus is reprimanding the religious leaders, calling them “washed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones”, “blind guides”, and a “brood of vipers”. They cared more about rules than they cared about love, justice and mercy. This spirit is still very much alive and infests our churches today. The image shows this spirit ripping apart the Bible, turning it into a list of rules. (The shreds of paper have the words, love, kindness, mercy, etc.)

I don’t understand why so many Christians want to turn their faith into just another set of rules to earn your way to heaven.
